And, yes. the band from Ealing, West London are the latest product of the hype machine… and very rightfully so! The sound of White Lies does justice to 80s goth-dance bands like Depeche Mode. Critics cite Interpol, The Killers, Editors as modern references, but those old enough will be able to pick out top notes of Ultravox, early Tears for Fears or Duran Duran, and so on down the shoulder pad. Nothing’s held back – their gigs start off big and get bigger. The fact that there’s nothing subtle about White Lies is exactly what makes them so special – they’re grand, theatrical and ridiculously brilliant. Their rise is meteoric! And their latest release, Ritual, is confirming they’ve done everything right so far.
