From the start, it had been Mogwai’s aim to create “serious guitar music.” Then, the cosmic post-rock band from Glasgow, Scotland landed in the top ten on the British indie charts. Each release heightened the sense that here was a band unafraid of aiming high and then reaching higher, beyond the parochial definitions of what young men playing guitars are supposed to achieve. The band on stage: Mogwai in full, frazzled, fantastic effect and the mostly wordless songs of love and hate and devotion, frankly, blow a lot of people’s minds with the sheer energy, precision, and beauty of their performances. To this day, Mogwai is nothing short of stunning.
