ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Controversial and independent filmmaker Emir Kusturica is bringing his anarchic band to Luxembourg. When not being a director of modern classics such as Underground (1995) or The Time Of The Gipsies (1998), Kusturica tours the world with his band, the No Smoking Orchestra. Born in Sarajevo in 1980, the act was soon to become the most significant musical expression of “New Primitivism”, a cultural resistance movement created in the transition years of post-Tito Yugoslavia, sparking controversy and even getting into trouble with authorities for their sympathetic criticism of the socialist system and the habit of making light of issues considered sensitive at the time. Their snatches of gypsy music, Serbian rock and brass-powered tunes are sure to make the audience raise the roof…
