ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Black Mountain, the psychedelic rocksters from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, have announced a first stop at den Atelier in Luxembourg. The troupe surrounding songwriter Stephen McBean has recently released a third album, Wilderness Heart. In FM-radio terms, Wilderness Heart is Black Mountain’s Houses Of The Holy, an album that shimmers as much as it bulldozes, humors as much as it rages, while flexing a more pronounced pop sensibility that works in the band’s favour. The band’s succinct rock songs pulse and pound with startling precision: it pummels you and you ask for more. This is arguably the band’s tightest, most concentrated venture, but there’s still plenty of raw rock energy at work. The popular perception of Black Mountain as 1970s-style riff-mongers is unfairly myopic… There’s a tenuous line between blissful, free-loving hippiedom and violent anarchy. If their philosophy could be displayed on a VW microbus bumper sticker, it would read “Make Love Then War.”
