An air of mystery surrounds Canadian-Danish duo Michael Milosh and Robin Hannibal, aka Rhye. Toronto-born Milosh is a classically trained electronic musician with a voice that has frequently been mistaken for a woman’s, with specific comparisons to Sade and Everything But The Girl. Danish-born Hannibal is a former member of indie band Quadron, and interestingly does not perform live with Rhye. Milosh may write and record all the music but he recruits other musicians to bring the desired concept together. The smooth, captivating vocals of Milosh are regularly accompanied by a backing band of strings, keys and drums among others. Woman, their debut album was released in 2013 to critical acclaim and was rated 8.5/10 by Pitchfork. Rhye is unusually gentle, soothing, and minimalist and soulful at the same time.
